چکیده
The resolvent framework for the Navier-Stokes equations with Boussinesq approximation was applied to a stratified turbulent boundary layer. results show that despite using only very limited range of representative scales, model able reproduce relative magnitude turbulence intensities and balance energy budget as well provide meaningful analysis structures in flow. response modes were predict variation function wall-normal distance Richardson number (Ri${}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}$) Ri${}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}$ under consideration this study.

Geometry of turbulence in wall-bounded shear flows: periodic orbits
The dynamical theory of moderate Reynolds number turbulence triangulates the infinite-dimensional Navier-Stokes state space by sets of exact solutions (equilibria, relative equilibria, periodic orbits, ...) which form a rigid backbone which enables us to describe and predict the sinuous motions of a turbulent fluid. We report determination of a set of unstable periodic orbits from close recurre...
متن کاملA linear process in wall-bounded turbulent shear flows
A linear process in wall-bounded turbulent shear flows has been investigated through numerical experiments. It is shown that the linear coupling term, which enhances non-normality of the linearized Navier–Stokes system, plays an important role in fully turbulent—and hence, nonlinear —flows. Near-wall turbulence is shown to decay without the linear coupling term. It is also shown that near-wall ...
متن کاملIsolating Curvature Effects in Computing Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows
The ow over the zero-pressure-gradient So-Mellor convex curved wall is simulated using the NavierStokes equations. An inviscid e ective outer wall shape, undocumented in the experiment, is obtained by using an adjoint optimization method with the desired pressure distribution on the inner wall as the cost function. Using this wall shape with a NavierStokes method, the abilities of various turbu...
متن کاملWall Slip and Boundary Effects in Polymer Shear Flows
Polymer – surface interactions strongly influence many important industrial and rheological flows. In particular, polymer melts and solutions slip against the surface; this has long been associated with sharkskin and spurt in extrusion, and recent experimental observations suggest that slip also plays a role in the formation of enhanced concentration fluctuations in entangled polymer solutions....
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Hypersonic Wall- Bounded Shear Flows – Part 1: Effusion Cooling
Direct numerical simulations (DNS) are carried out to study the laminar stability properties of an effusioncooled adiabatic flat-plate boundary layer at Mach 6. Through four aligned rows of holes, cold gas is blown into the boundary layer at the wall and background disturbances are excited at the wall upstream of the holes. Two cases are compared, with small and large spanwise spacing of the ho...
